2015 – Waitikiri Golf Club – Canterbury

9th National Tournament Report Waitikiri Golf Club Christchurch 1st – 3rd Nov 2015.
Hosted by the Mike Davies lead Canterbury Team at Mike’s home club offered up even greater opportunities to give the hosts plenty of banter about the course especially once the scores rolled in.

Weather had been rather wet in the lead up and if it wasn’t for a broken water pipe on the 18th green during the practice round the course was in pretty good shape. Only real problem was the freezing cold hollowing wind, especially on Tuesday when the round started in nice sunny claim conditions but ended up in 60km winds which made it hard for even the golf bag to stay upright let alone try and stand and hit the ball. Of course the usual banter back to the host after experiencing this come back with his usual sharp and snappy wit and a few unmentionable words.

A thanks to the National Sponsors that braved the elements and a thanks to those that attended the prize giving dinner.
A special mention to The GTS Pit Crew who once again showed fine form with the on course refreshments tent.
Also a big thanks to the Waitikiri Golf Club for putting on a great golf course, fabulous meals and a great venue for the National Tournament.

Along with the serious side of the golf there are a couple of inter region haggles that take place.
The Auckland and Canterbury battle for the Kornikova was won by Canterbury 1047 to Aucklands 1057.
The Kornikova trophy happily handed to Neil Vermaak for the flight back to Auckland.

Canterbury 513 took the honors over Aorangi 481 in the battle for the Jim Beam.

Nelson/Marlborough/West Coast 535 took the spoils from Wellington 500.

Fittingly The Bone of Contention was fought out between two tournament also ran’s, Hawkes Bay/Poverty Bay and Middle Districts with the Bay lads coming out on top by 9 shots.

Another great tournament with great friends, plenty of laughs, even more banter and fantastic support from our great family of National Sponsors.

Look forward to doing it all again at the 50th National Tournament hosted By the Wellington team at Boulcott Farms Golf Club 30th Oct – 2nd Nov 2016.
