Waikato 2018

Waikato Friday 19th October 2018- Omanu Golf Club
– Friday the 19th of October dawned an absolute cracker of a day in the Waikato, only thing was our tourney was being played at the Omanu Golf Club in Mount Maunganui. Luckily it was even better over the hill in the Bay of Plenty. Brilliant blue skies with no clouds and very little wind.

This year we decided to do something new from our normal 18 hole individual stroke play. This was to try and boost our falling player numbers that we had been experiencing for the past 4 years. After much debate we decided to add a 4 person team Ambrose section to the field.
WOW, we were not expecting such a positive response. In the end we had to cap the Team Ambrose section to 18 teams due to also having 46 (33 handicap golfers and 13 non-handicappers) individuals entered into the stroke play section. Unfortunately we also had to turn down 4 late Team Ambrose entries due to the size of the field.
A massive field of 118 on the start sheet. Up 53 on last year and 45 up on the year before.
So the Team Ambrose turned out to be a master stoke by the committee.
Although there were thoughts and comments about the possibility of slow play with such a large field all was completed in 4 1/2 hours with no major choke points or anyone waiting for long.
So a great effort all round by the committee and all the players on the day.
Sponsorship was smashing/brilliant/massive, what more can I say. 35 fabulous sponsors in total with 9 newbie’s to our tournament this year. 17 hole sponsors and some fabulous prizes donated also.
Without the Champion Companies listed below tournaments like this just couldn’t happen.
Although I am the National Sponsorship Coordinator for the NZ Electrical Trades organization I’m continually surprised and at times overwhelmed with the generosity of these companies and the great support they give not only the WBOP tourney but all the other 9 regions as well.

So I know it goes without saying, but please support these fantastic companies below whenever you can. There are some new companies from outside the electrical industry also so if you need access platforms on site think Green Hire, Coffee Machines then give the Black Stag team a call, Ultimate Motor Group have millions of vehicles to choose from and between The Osteria Group and The Orchard Bar the whole family is sorted.
