77th Trades Tournament Waitikiri Golf Course

A smaller field of 132 had registered but a couple of cancellations dropped the field down to 124, having learnt from last year, the club house can’t cope with the larger numbers. We were over-subscribed had to refuse some late entries. The tournament is still in demand. We may have to separate teams from the same organisation as they tend to pair up and play in 8’s.

A minute’s silence was held in respect of Matt Evers Carmichael, who passed away earlier in the year. Matt was a longtime tournament supporter and team member. He was taken much too soon, aged 56 years.
Extremely lucky with the weather. A heavy shower passed over about 11.00am but this passed and the day was bright clear and little wind although a little cool. The course was in fantastic condition with the greens due to be cored the next week. Again, the Ambrose format was very successful with more than 30 teams going for the Clevertronics trophy. Usual great prize table with spirits and meat trays being popular.

We had 2 BBQ’s again with Klein Tools on 10 and Bremca on 3, with other sponsors having different novelties around the course,

Ideal Electrical One

RIP "Matty"
Haier hit the air con unit on hole 1, Kraus & Naimer, Simx (jelly shots), Thorn Lighting & Clevertronics with the longest drive on 18 and 10, and the Active Electrical sponsored coffee cart was in action before we started. Hole 10 (non hcp) longest drive won by Chris Brandon, and Clevertronics' longest drive (HCP) on hole 18 won by James Anderson. Kraus & Naimer NTP 17 won by Ian Blunt, winning a lunch out on the V8-powered trike.
The gambling hole raised $350 for charity.
The team organized a rugby raffle, including a round with All Black Codie Taylor raised over $1000 for their trip to the Kidnappers course as part of the Nationals in Napier.
The overall winner of the Clevertronics Trophy was Kodi Hepi’s Ideal team, with a nett score of 54 in 2nd place was Team Jimmys Boys with 57, 3rd was The Big Dogs with 57.5. We will be revising the Ambrose rules to ensure that every player plays every shot.
Mike started the presentations off and introduced James Anderson, who completed the prize giving in fine style. Thanks to Chris Brandon for photographing the prize winners.
Also, thanks to all the sponsors from the National Gold, Silver & Bronze sponsors down to the local suppliers who donated some great prizes. A big thank you to you all, especially Klein Tools, Bremca, Schneider, and Active Electrical and Master Electricians.
It was another big day out, and after a few drinks and a table platter, the prize giving was done and dusted, and everybody was on their way by 7.15.
The team for this year’s nationals in Napier is headed by James Anderson, Jeramie Neaves, Shane Ngataki, Deane Hutchinson, Grant Thomson, Stu Amos, Nige Starkie, and Zach Inglis.
Next year's Nationals will be in the Canterbury area and will be the last one for Mike as he will be 85 in 2036.
Mike Davies 🙂
