Canterbury 2024

76th Trades Tournament Waitikiri Golf Course

A large field of over 144 had registered but a couple of cancellations dropped the field down to 132 still too many and we had to refuse some entries as well.  The clubhouse was bursting at the seams and we may have to restrict entries in the future.

Prize Table

Post golf revelry

We were extremely lucky with the weather as all forecasts had strong southerlies and snow down to low levels.  Fortunately, none of this occurred and the day was bright clear and little wind although a little cool.
The course was in fantastic condition with the greens due to be cored the next week.  Again, the Ambrose format was very successful with more than 33 teams going for the Clevertronics trophy.  Usual great prize table with spirits and meat trays being popular.  Raffles went down well bringing in several hundred dollars.

BBQ’s again provided, many thanks to Klein Tools on 10 and Bremca on 3, with other sponsors having different novelties around the course, ATT, Schneider, ZG Lighting & Clevertronics with the longest drive on 18 and Active Electrical sponsor coffee cart was in action before we started.
Longest drive was won by Mike Earnshaw by all accounts an absolute monster (over 290m). NTP 3 Mike Eagle, NTP 12 Carter Trillo, NTP 17 Sticky. Schneiders Cardrona Gin won by Jason Smith.

Overall winner of the Clevertronics Trophy presented by Clevertronics GM Greg Johnson down from Auckland to play, was Graham Hewson’s Corys team with a nett score of 55.4 in 2nd place was Team CDE 55.6 and Idealistics 3 on 57 in third place.
Mike started the presentations off and introduced James Anderson who completed the prize giving in fine style.  Thanks to John Barnes for is help on the day and his photographing the prize winners.
Also, thanks to all the sponsors from the National Gold Silver & Bronze sponsors down to the local suppliers who donated some great prizes.
A big thank you to you all especially Klein Tools, Bremca, ATT, Schneider, and Active, and our shirt sponsors Master Electricians.
It was another big day out and after a few drinks and a table platter the prize-giving was done and dusted and everybody was on their way by 7.15.

The team for this year’s nationals in Timaru is headed by James Anderson, Jeramie Neaves, Shane Ngataki, Deane Hutchinson, Grant Thomson, Stu Amos, Kevin Carmody with 2 more to be added.
