Canterbury – 2023

Waitikiri Golf Club

A milestone for the Canterbury Association celebrating the 75th Edition of their tournament.
A full field of over 120, we had 128 at one stage but IES had to pull their two teams at the last minute because of work commitments. It was a superb day sunny, clear with little wind, although cool.
We were very lucky because the course was hit 24 hours later by very strong winds which closed the course for safety reasons.
The course was in damp condition with fast & true greens and the place looked a picture.  Heavy overnight rain (15mils) left some areas a little wet and the club banned the use of carts.
Again the Ambrose format was a huge success with 30 teams going for the Clevertronics Trophy.
Some scores returned looked a little suspect being in the high 50’s.
Several new teams entered this year including Richard Knights team from Oamaru and 2 teams from Ashburton. They enjoyed the day. Some fantastic prizes for the monster raffle, including 3 multi meters from IFM Effector, Jim Beam, and other goodies.

We had 2 BBQ's this year, Klein Tools on the 10th and Bremca on the 3rd hole.  Other sponsors had different novelties around the course – ATT, Schneider, Unistrut, Simx, Thorn Lighting, and Energizer (batteries galore) & Schneider sponsored the longest drive on hole 18, and Active Electrical sponsored the coffee cart before we started.
A big thank you to these companies and to the many others who either took up hole sponsorship or supplied prizes. Thanks to AC Connections for their help with the paperwork.

Results:
Because of the Ambrose format, there were no individual results.
Nearest the pin (4) & longest drive prizes were presented by the sponsors.
The Clevertronics Trophy was won by the TYCAB team captained by Deane Hutchinson with a net score of 56.1 Team Crichton with 57  came 2nd Team and the Go Active Town were, 3rd with 60.2.
Some new blood presented themselves for possible selection for the Canterbury Team for the National tournament.
Captain James Anderson will pick his team and good luck to them.

It was a big day and after a light food and drinks the prize giving was done and dusted and everybody was on their way by 7.00 pm.

Thanks to all who sponsored and played.
