Auckland 2018

Auckland Electrical Trades Golf Tournament – Friday 12th October 2018
Another year has rolled around bringing with it similar inclement weather to what we experienced last year, the day dawned with the worst of the rain mainly to the north so the prospect of getting the same weather at the Pakuranga Golf Club was a prospect but hopes were high that it would not amount to much “as the weather forecast was predicting”!!

11:00am and the NHP staff were out in force to organize the pregame BBQ, job well done and much appreciated, David Maunsell Auckland Sales Manager for Switch Lighting provided refreshments, along with Frucor Suntory who continue to support our day with copious quantities of Gatorade.

Food and refreshments taken care of we got underway at 12:00pm with light rain falling, “why does it always wait until you get underway”!!

As it turned out the rain only ever lasted for five minutes, with fine spells ensuing for the best part of the day.

Seventy hardy golfers braved the weather and were rewarded with a golf course that was in excellent condition, evident in the scores that were presented at prize giving.

One of the highlights of the day was Ron Daley Jnr recording an albatross on the Par five 14th hole, at 415metres into a stiff wind it was two excellent shots to achieve the two.

After the golf raffles and lucky draws were held during the light meal dinner provided as part of the day, many thanks to the catering staff and bar staff for continued excellence in those areas.

To the prize giving our 2018 Trade Champion was Ron Daley Jnr. who assisted by his albatross recorded a fine round of 72, Best Nett (64) was taken out by Russell Constant, Best Stableford (42) by Mark Ross, runner’s up were
Don Berry Gross 75, Ken Tyree Nett 68 and Tom Edmonds 38 Stableford points.

Our tournament celebrated its 65th anniversary this year, in recognition of this auspicious occasion the original trophy from that first event “having spent some time in someones loft” was returned recently and resurected this year to be presented to a new “65” and over player who has recorded the best Stableford on the day, this was won by Pukekohe member Ian Chrichton who we understand also holds the Auckland Seniors Golf trophy for similar success.
Well done Ian we look forward to that trophy being hotly contested in the future.

The one and only Ambrose Team “Hollywood Stars” 67 Gross managed to take out that section by default!! had a great day out, enjoying success in the golf and some of the raffle prizes.

All in all everyone received a prize and had what we hope was an enjoyable day, many thanks to our National Sponsors for their contribution towards the success of these days, particular thanks to First Flex for the added prize of the Chilly Bin and beer coolers, NHP for all the added value to the prize table, Mike Tierney and PDC, David Maunsell and Switch Lighting, Mark Ross and his team from Frucor Suntory, the fantastic turnout from NHP New Zealand providing the BBQ, all our sponsors who turned out with a team on the day, Active Electrical, Eddie and his NSG Lighting team, Ideal Electrical, Scott Electrical and everyone else who made our day another success.

Our provisional team for the 2018 Nationals to be held at the Pukekohe Golf Club 11th – 13th November is as follows.
Brian Cronin (Manager), Brian Hemingway (Captain), Ron Daley Jnr, Mark Ross, Ken Tyree, Russell Constant, Michael Leggoe, and Ian Vaeteru we wish all team members success at the Nationals and hope to have a trophy or two to display next year.

Good golfing and best wishes for the rest of the year to all.
