Events are held at golf courses located within the ten main provincial regions in New Zealand.
The participating regions are as follows, Auckland, Waikato/Bay of Plenty, Hawkes Bay, Middle Districts, Wellington, Nelson/Marlborough/West Coast, Canterbury, Aorangi, Otago, and Southland.
The relevant Provinces will confer with various golf course’s in their respective areas and come up with a best case arrangement that will accommodate our “diverse” range of golfers at the chosen golf course.
These courses are generally of a very high standard and present a good opportunity for those looking to qualify and represent their Province at the Nationals.
The National Tournament itself is held in the week of the first Tuesday in November to coincide with the running of the Melbourne Cup.
Over the years it has been accepted that it will be held on a rotational basis amongst the ten regions, unless untoward circumstances have interfered, as was the case with Covid in 2020 and 2021, and 2023 when Hawkes Bay Poverty Bay encountered severe floods that would make the courses in the region unplayable for the November timeline.
