Electrical Trades Nationals - 3rd and 4th November 2014 - Omanu Golf Club - Mt Maunganui
The National event continues to grow in excellence from course presentation, sponsorship, support management, and the friendly interprovincial rivalry.
The Waikato Bay of Plenty committee are to be congratulated on an excellent event held this year at the Omanu Golf Club, Mt Maunganui.
Situated just over the bridge from the City of Tauranga the Omanu Golf Club was presented to the Electrical Trades in tournament condition with a fair cut of rough and fairways that were more than capable of providing “play the lie” conditions.
The green staff and management are to be congratulated on their efforts, with the scores “in general” reflecting the favorable course conditions.
Many thanks to the WBOP organising committee Gavin Clarke, Marty Forsman, Rex McIntosh, Mark Mansell, Stu Browne, Sara Browne, Brian Barrett, and Mike Dyke.
The event flowed without a hitch from Sundays practice round, the meet and greet at the golf club and ongoing socialising at the local bars, through to the finale dinner and prize giving in the clubhouse on Tuesday night.
A gauge on the success of any event is usually recognized by the number of attendees who are reluctant to leave the after match function with many of these leaving the dial a driver call as late as 11:30pm to head back into town.
Our sponsors support and participation continues to grow at every event and they are to be thanked in no small way for their ongoing contribution to the running of this tournament.
Corys Electrical, ECANZ: Master Electricians, ETCO, GTS Lighting, Hamer Limited, Ideal-Egley Electrical, Philips Lighting, Schneider Electric.
We urge all our electrical trade golfers and others to place particular emphasis on supporting our sponsors when considering their buying options.
And so to the golf that was played with the usual friendly banter and rivalry, wagers made, bragging rights and drinks collected.
The setup we now have of playing provinces against each other on the daily rounds is proving to be a perfect catalyst not only for the “friendly” rivalry but in particular the development of new friendships in the club house afterwards.
Many thanks to Mike and Peter from GTS Lighting who as they did in the provincial tournaments provided a welcome pit stop on the 17th hole with drinks and bacon wrapped prawns on the Monday and mini burgers on the Tuesday.
Great job guys keep it coming :)
Presentation of the awards on the Tuesday night were well represented by our main sponsors with ECANZ Chief Executive getting proceedings underway with a welcome to the players and sponsors representatives, ably supported by Corys Electrical Regional Manager Peter Garden, Philips Lighting Key Accounts Manager Rhys Jamieson, GTS Lighting General Manager Richard Pratley, Schneider representative Kelvin Hart, and Ideal Electrical's Robert Rhyndress and Travis Dawson.
A notable achievement award for our own Scott Applegate for services to the Electrical Trades Golf Tournament both locally and nationally Scott's contribution to the events has been immeasurable.
Congrats to Scott and many thanks from Gavin Clarke presenting the trophy on behalf of the association.
Trophy awards are always received with general ovation from those receiving the awards and a smattering of congratulatory clapping from the rest, throughout the two days of play scores are closely observed as teams vie for the coveted team victories.
The main awards of Clipsal Cup - Best team Gross, Schneider Cup – Best Team Nett, General Cable Cup – Best Stableford, Corys Cup – Best Par, and a newly added trophy the Philips Cup for the Best Combined Stableford by three players from a province whom have played in 5 or more national events.
The awarding of these trophies is the highlight of the evening with bragging rights usually lasting well into the small hours of the next day.
Many thanks again to all our sponsors and their representatives whom attended the weekend.
Please know that as sponsors of our tournament you are always welcome to attend and play a friendly game with your fellow sponsors prior to taking part in the formal part of the weekend.
