Hawkes Bay/Poverty Bay 2026

The day greeted us with mild conditions early, as the tee time drew near (Mid-day shotgun start). The wind began to strengthen and continued to do so for the duration of the round.  Some adapted well to the conditions and for others it paid a part in their score.

Much thanks to the greenkeepers who had the course in great condition, greens at a challenging pace, with some tricky positioning of pins to add to the day’s challenges.

Keeping pace of play was a challenge in these conditions and some wayward shots, overall, the field did keep the flow of play reasonable given the challenges they were facing.

We would like to thank Natalie, Maxine, Darryn & Tanz who are always a joy to work with, making the tournament enjoyable off the course and ensuring nothing is a problem in preparation for our big day.

The HBPB players stepping up to help with registration, raffles, checking score cards and preparation leading into the tournament.

Carl Cotter, Dean Gray, Tom Cowan, Fred Chadwick.

We would also like to acknowledge our national sponsors for their ongoing support, also on the day sponsors who supported the tournament by way of monetary support or prizes for the raffles.

National Sponsors: JAR, Radcliffe, Signify, ABB, Clevertronics, Hager, Haier, Thorn, First Flex, Ideal, Maser, NHP, Simx, Versalux.

Day Sponsors: First flex, Kraus & Naimer, Evolve Lighting, The Armoury, Mase, Advance security, NHP, Schnieder & HBPB Electrical Trades Golf.

A shout out to Kerry from NHP and the help from Kevin Richardson (Evolve Lighting) on the BBQ at the turn, nothing beats something to eat and drink at the half way mark.  It was appreciated and enjoyed by all!

The field was made up with 30 Medal Players chasing individual titles and a team title and 18 Ambrose Teams looking to takeout the inaugural Applegate Trophy, in all we had 102 players attend of the 112 registered. Sickness across the country this winter taking its toll in the HB as well with a few no shows.

The prize table this year was funded by the HBPB Electrical Trades Golf, for the winners by way of a bottle Pinot Noir and gift vouchers each, from Pak ’n’ Save or Z Energy.

The association looking to relieve the cost of living by way of prizes and understanding all participants had already taken time of work to be involved.
