Boulcotts Farm Heritage Golf Club - Friday 15th September
Boulcotts
Boulcott Farms Heritage Golf Club hosted the Wellington tournament once again this year and the course was in excellent condition with lush fairways and fast greens for the field of 100 players.
Players were welcomed by Jamie Dempster from Vynco at registration, and with a bar-b-que on the deck run by Alan Fayen and the 2016 regional team. Players enjoyed catching up with long-time associates and there was plenty of convivial banter as they chatted amongst the sponsors’ banners and were briefed on the course and competition.
Out on the course a bright, warm day was tempered with an often gale force northerly making club selection a key component for the serious golfer. 3 woods to 4 irons were the club of choice on a 130 metre par three facing into the teeth of the wind.
The par 3 circle around the pin charity hole was manned by Aaron Woolley from Kraus & Naimer and players were generous in their ‘donations’ for Wellington City Mission as they fired off the tee. Aaron reported that Alan Fayen’s drive certainly looked to be in the circle from the tee and required an eager walk up to the green - only to find that the wind had blown the ball away by the time they got there. No surprise – no prize!
The bar-b-que at the far end of the course in the shelter of the trees was a welcome stop off and the drinks cart ran all day adding more cheer to the occasion.
The round was completed in around 4.5 hours and cards were collected and scores recorded in the club rooms. A slide show of previous years’ results and all the sponsors rolled in the background for the player’s interest as they enjoyed a meal and refreshments.
The team was selected and announced at Prize Giving where appreciation was shown for the sponsors, the golf club and staff, and both local and national committees.
Results show that golf is in good shape in the capital and the team looks forward to representing Wellington at the Nationals.
Trophies were presented by representatives of the respective companies and a generous prize table was enjoyed by all.
Good byes were made and often finished with, ‘That was fun – see you next year’.
By Wellington Committee: Steve Needham, Jamie Dempster, Bruce Robb
